Rangers star Scott Arfield has been speaking to the press ahead of the club’s Europa League clash with Brondby in Denmark as he fielded questions on his current contract situation.

Arfield, now 33, was Steven Gerrard’s first-ever Ibrox signing and the first player to join the Gerrard revolution, signing a four-year deal after his contract expired with Burnley.

In that period of time, Scotty Arf has gone on to become an influential member of the Ibrox squad and a player defined by major purple patches of form in Gerrard’s side.

Some of the best football Rangers played last season was with the tireless midfielder linking play with the attack and plenty of fans are happy to see him back in the side.

Now in the final year of his original Ibrox deal, Arfield admits that there hasn’t been any discussions regarding a new contract but that he’s focused on stamping an impression on the first team.

“No there hasn’t been [any talks over a new deal] at the minute. It is up in May so we will see what happens with that,” said Arfield [Rangers].

“Fully focused about getting myself back in the team and getting the opportunity and we will see what happens with that.

“Of course, I am no different to any other player, whether you are 18 or 33 you want to be playing football.

“You want to be training during the week with something to look forward to at the weekend.

“It was all about doing the consistent things and when I got given my opportunity it was then all about trying to take it.

Scott Arfield “fully focused” on breaking back into Rangers side as contract ticks down

“I had to be ready. It’s been well documented, but this team is getting stronger, the calibre of player is getting better.

“So you know when you get that opportunity you have to take it and stay in there as long as possible.

“It’s always about attitude, and not just at this football club.

“As a player you need to have the right attitude. If you don’t have attitude or the right personality then you will find yourself in tough situations.

“Self-belief, attitude, it’s what you need and that grows when you become successful.

“We’ve got that as a group, from the manager right down. So when you get that opportunity you are ready to take it.”

Always well spoken and influential, it’s great to Scotty back amongst the squad and if the player continues to impress then we’re sure Rangers will have plenty to think about heading into May.

Rangers fans are eager to see their side in Europa League action after a thumping victory over Motherwell at Fir Park as Steven Gerrard confirmed a potential Ibrox boost in Denmark.
