In claiming on Sunday that ‘his time is over for loans’, Jurgen Klopp appeared to rule out a temporary return to Ibrox for Ryan Kent [BBC Sport].
That would constitute something of a blow for Steven Gerrard and Gers fans alike. However, a Leeds Live report suggests that there’s still reason to be hopeful at Ibrox.
It’s suggested that due to Financial Fair play considerations, it’s now unlikely that an English side will be able to stump up the cash to buy Kent outright before the deadline.
For example, it’s claimed that while Leeds remain interested, they would be unable to buy him this summer.
With the window closing for Premier League and Championship clubs on 8th August, there’s a little over a week left for the Reds to secure their winger’s exit if he’s to join an English club.
For that reason, it’s suggested the player’s representatives believe a loan exit still remains the most likely short-term resolution.
Ryan Kent to Rangers still possible?
Logic dictates that if the English deadline comes and goes, then a loan to Rangers becomes viable once more.
It seems similarly unlikely that the Gers will be able to buy Kent outright, but despite Klopp’s comments, a temporary return to Ibrox may end up as preferable to all parties. That’s if it avoids the 22-year-old wasting away on the bench or in the stands at Anfield.
Rangers shouldn’t be pinning their remaining transfer hopes on bringing Kent back.
Yet, it does appear that we will have a much clearer idea about what his future holds by 5 pm on 8 August.
With the club looking for Eros Grezda to follow Daniel Candeias out of Ibrox, the return of the Scottish Young Player of the Year would replenish stocks in wide areas.
