Rangers could now see Bologna star Lewis Ferguson make a move to join Ross Wilson’s Nottingham Forest side in 2024.
Recruitment at Ibrox has been under scrutiny for a long time now.
Many fans would argue that the money raised from Calvin Bassey’s sale was wasted on players who aren’t making a big impact.
There are also multiple instances of Rangers missing out on potential key players, with Lewis Ferguson fitting the bill.
Lewis Ferguson slipped through the Rangers net
If anybody was supposed to play for Rangers, it should have been Ferguson.
The son of Derek Ferguson and nephew of Barry Ferguson, Lewis has Rangers in his family.
Ferguson started out in the Rangers ranks but was let go as a teenager, bringing his Ibrox dream to a halt.
The midfielder ended up shining at Hamilton Academical and Aberdeen though, securing a 2022 move to Bologna.
Rangers did allegedly fancy bringing Ferguson back though; The Scottish Sun reported back in May of 2020 that Steven Gerrard had identified Ferguson as a player he wanted.
The Gers missed out and agent Bill McMurdo even suggested earlier this year that he was being asked by people inside Rangers just why on earth Ferguson hadn’t been signed.

Ross Wilson could take Ferguson to Nottingham Forest
Rangers appear to have missed the boat now with Ferguson sadly out of the club’s price range.
Ferguson now seems more likely to join a major Serie A side or even a Premier League club having hit three goals and two assists and three goals in 13 games this term.
Italian newspaper Tuttosport now report that Fulham and Nottingham Forest are both interested in signing Ferguson ahead of the January transfer window.
A key factor here is Ross Wilson, who left his post as Rangers’ recruitment chief earlier this year.
Wilson moved on to Nottingham Forest and could now take a former Rangers target to the City Ground in Ferguson.
Wilson was at the club when Gerrard allegedly wanted Ferguson and has seemingly taken that interest to England.
That move would sting a little for Gers fans, who may just have to hope that Ferguson ends up at Ibrox further down the line.
