There is one name that Rangers or the usual sources haven’t ruled out as the transfer deadline day clock slowly ticks closer to the 11:30pm cut-off – Lawrence Shankland.
Even transfer supremo Fabrizio Romano has been quiet on the speculation as Gers boss Philippe Clement looks to work as late as possible to strengthen his squad and get one or more new faces standing with scarves about their heads at Ibrox.
There is no doubt that a move to Rangers would be an easy one for Lawrence Shankland to accept but what has the deadline day guru said about the chances of the Hearts skipper to take the short trip along the M8?
Rangers and Lawrence Shankland rumour won’t go away
On his live transfer show, Fabrizio Romano made the – questionable – decision to ask Rangers fans to jump on the chat section of his kick.com broadcast.
The main talking point was a simple one:
“Shankland to Rangers?”
To which Romano replied:
“I don’t know, yet.”
It couldn’t have been much more ambiguous.
Does this mean that something is in the pipeline but not finalised or that he has been trying to find out but hasn’t been able to get any inside information?
What it has done is stop Rangers fans from going to their beds and switching social media off just yet with Lawrence Shankland considered by many to be the missing piece of the jigsaw.
Fabio Silva has been used only as a number nine by Philippe Clement in support of Cyriel Dessers whose form has now seen him earn the right to be first choice.
The worry is, we have seen how inconsistent he can be and that more goals are needed in Clement’s squad if we are serious about winning the Scottish Premiership title.
With nothing from fan media or other regular sources like The Rangers Review, the radio silence isn’t doing anything to calm the nerves of fans.
