Former Rangers defender Filip Helander could be on the move just months after leaving Ibrox with Anderlecht chasing his signature.

The Rangers career of Filip Helander feels like a disappointment.

Rangers pounced to sign the Swede back in 2019, paying £3million to lure him away from Italian side Genoa.

Helander only managed 60 appearances for Rangers with injuries ultimately ruining his time at the club.

Helander did win a league title at Rangers and buried a winner against Celtic at Ibrox in 2021, but it was hard to see past the injury record.

After not being able to play a single game last season, Helander was released upon the expiry of his contract and headed back to Scandinavia by joining Danish side Odense.

Filip Helander wanted by Anderlecht after Rangers exit

Helander has played 10 league games for Odense this season, putting his injury woes behind him to become a regular starter.

The 30-year-old centre back now appears primed for a move away with Anderlecht attempting to take him over to Belgium.

Fabrizio Romano now reports that Anderlecht have sent a ‘formal bid’ to Odense as they push to sign Helander.

It’s stated that talks will now take place in the coming days in an effort to thrash out a deal.

Odense made a couple of significant sales over the summer as winger Yankuba Minteh and playmaker Mads Frøkjær-Jensen joined Newcastle United and Preston North End respectively.

The Danes may now hold out for a decent price for Helander, who seems to be getting his career back on track after leaving Rangers.

Helander would seemingly arrive as competition for captain Jan Vertonghen on the left side of Anderlecht’s centre back pairing.

Midfielder Thomas Delaney recently had to fill in there, so a natural option like Helander now appears to be the focus for Anderlecht.

Brian Riemer’s side are back in the hunt for the title in Belgium after nearly seven years without clinching top spot.

Helander may now be eyed up to help Anderlecht reclaim the title and Gers fans would be cheering him on, even if seeing him move for cash just months after Rangers released him would sting.
