Rangers are finally set to sign a (Robin) Pröpper defender as the club launch a move for FC Twente’s captain.
The Gers are reportedly closing in on a deal to bring Robin Pröpper to Ibrox just a day after Connor Goldson’s exit to Aris Limassol was confirmed.
The 30-year-old centre-back will immediately take the place of the outgoing Ibrox vice-captain and it’s a move which has been warmly received by Rangers supporters.
Given the proximity to Goldson’s exit, it certainly looks like Rangers were waiting on Connor to move on before launching a bid for Pröpper in this window.
But whilst Ibrox fans frantically search online for as much information as they can about the defender, there are no fewer than three names at the club who’re already well familiar with the centre-back.

Pröpper Ibrox links
Robin Pröpper might be coming into a new environment at Rangers but there are several names at Ibrox with links to the centre-back.
The most prominent appears to be Dutch coach Andries Ulderink, who joined Rangers in the summer as Philippe Clement’s Ibrox assistant.
Having spent time working as Ron Jans assistant at FC Twente, Ulderink worked with Robin Pröpper in the Eredivisie.
We suspect Clement’s new assistant might’ve helped engineer the club towards the central defender.
But it’s not just off the park that Robin Pröpper has links to Rangers, with two of the centre-back’s former teammates currently in the Ibrox squad.
New Rangers signing Vaclav Cerny played with Pröpper for two seasons at FC Twente before his move to VfL Wolfsburg in Germany.
The two are therefore already well acquainted but whilst Czech winger Cerny also linked up with Brazilian striker Danilo at Twente, Pröpper joined after the South American hitman’s season long loan from Ajax.
But the links don’t end there.
Robin Pröpper also used to play with Rangers striker Cyriel Dessers.
Pröpper turned out for Heracles Almelo across five seasons before moving to Twente in 2021 and Cyriel Dessers was his teammate at the Eredivisie side for the 19/20 season.
Rangers to stump up ‘several million’
As Rangers rip up their historic leadership group news that Robin Pröpper is already familiar with several names in the squad is an undoubted positive.
Rangers have obviously lost Connor Goldson this week, but the stalwart defender joins the likes of Borna Barisic, John Lundstram, Ryan Jack and Kemar Roofe in quitting Ibrox.
The question will then move on to how much Rangers have paid to bring Pröpper to Ibrox this summer.
With the defender contracted to Twente until 2027 Rangers will have to pay a fee and now De Telegraaf are reporting the transfer is worth ‘several million’.
The Daily Record have since claimed the deal could reach £2.7m.
This is more than the €1.7m (£1.2m) Rangers have reportedly recouped from the sale of Connor Goldson to Aris Limassol.
