But for injury, Robby McCrorie would have played a lot more games for Rangers last season, now it looks as though he might not play for the club again.

The 25-year old impressed during the season run-in, a noticeable more proactive approach to covering the space behind his defence seemed to pay dividends in preventing chances with Michael Beale calling him a “top” goalkeeper.

A report in The Sun though, has claimed that Robby McCrorie could be on his way out of Rangers sparked by the signing of Jack Butland.

The Scotland youth international has two years left on his current contract so, either way, he will have a decision to make if an acceptable offer comes in for him.

As is the case with every Rangers player.

But what he has done is show that he can be trusted.

Will Robby McCrorie be leaving Rangers?

Playing in the final half dozen games or so has allowed him to prove that he can be a top keeper and will certainly give him more options should he decide that his future lies elsewhere.

Robby McCrorie was probably told that he will get a chance to compete for the number one jersey but, then again, Michael Beale was open in admitting that a new goalkeeper was a summer priority as far back as January.

The Auchenhowie graduate wouldn’t have been stupid enough to think that a new senior stopper wasn’t being brought in, he even revealed himself that the Gers gaffer had spoken to him about a new goalkeeper being signed.

If Robby McCrorie does go, Rangers would be down another club trained player for UEFA competitions.

Kieran Wright and Jay Hogarth could be promoted but it would be risky to have someone so inexperienced as cover for a whole season.

There have also been doubts about Jon McLaughlin’s future given his status at the club.

Having started last campaign as number one, he struggled to make the bench at the end of the season.

It would be understandable if McCrorie wanted to take on a new challenge but the price has to be right for a player who should have been given his chance much earlier than he was.
