Former Rangers defender Rob Kiernan retires from football at the age of 32, following in the footsteps of former Ibrox teammate Harry Forrester.

The former Republic of Ireland youth international has been forced to take the decision due a troublesome hip injury and he announced his retirement on Instagram.

This comes with the player failing to make an appearance final club Orange County since August in 2022.

“Unfortunately my hip injury has forced me into retirement earlier than expected and I have to respect my body when it’s talking to me,” said Rob Kiernan.

“I’ve had some incredible memories, it’s shaped my life and I lived out my childhood dream.

“Thank you to everyone whose contributed and supported me, it’s now time to give back.”

The retirement comes with Rob Kiernan having launched a new business in the Prospect Soccer Academy alongside former Ibrox teammate Harry Forrester.

Interestingly, the retirement of Rob Kiernan also comes after former Rangers star Harry Forrester also hung up his boots earlier in the year, with the attacking midfielder also just 32.

Rangers were one of 14 clubs the player turned out for in his career, with Rob Kiernan starting his career Watford before enjoying loan stints at Kilmarnock, Yeovil, Bradford and Wycombe.

The centre-back would then move to Wigan Athletic, where he was farmed out on loan to Accrington Stanley, Burton Albion, Brentford, Southend and Birmingham City.

Moving to Rangers in 2017, Rob Kiernan made 76 appearances for the club over two seasons – the most he made for any club – before moving to Southend and then on to Rangers’ club partners Orange County in the US.
