Reports today, suggest that Rangers are back in for Jake Cooper. The former Reading defender is currently plying his trade at Championship side, Millwall.
A Daily Express report, suggests that the Gers’ chief scout, Andy Scoulding, travelled to watch the 23-year-old turn out against Bolton last month.
It wasn’t a bad game to pick either, as the giant centre-back’s goal rescued a point in the dying moments.
There are further suggestions that any move for the defender would be made over the summer, rather than in next months window.
It is certainly interesting that having failed to capture Cooper’s signature this summer, that Rangers look to be back in once more. Clearly, the powers that be have great confidence in his ability.
Waiting until the summer also makes much more sense as, when Joe Worrall returns to Nottingham Forest, the Gers will be short of options. With Cooper’s current contract only running until 2020, the player may also be less costly in a few months time.
At just 23, he is far from the finished article.
However, he already has several years of Championship and League One football under his belt, as well as all the attributes of a top centre-half. At 6ft 6′ there aren’t many strikers who would fancy taking him on in the air.
This is definitely one to watch going forward.
