Rangers and Celtic have gone head to head in several transfer battles this month.

So far, the Gers seem to have come out on top. Both Glen Kamara and Jermain Defoe, were reportedly subject to interest from Celtic.

Yet, both players chose Ibrox in the end.

Today, though, it seems that the two clubs may be close to sharing additional transfer spoils.

Reports suggest that Celtic are close to signing Andrew Gutman, while Matt Polster is set to join the Gers.

Who is getting the better player?

Polster is the more experienced of the two defenders. Primarily a right-back, he has made a considerable 82 MLS appearances for Chicago Fire since debuting in 2015.

He is also a full United States international.

Apparently Celtic bound Gutman, is the younger of the two Americans.

He has spent the last three years at the Indiana Hoosiers, the team connected to Indiana University Bloomington.

As most of his early career has been spent in college football, less information is available on the 22-year-old.

Clearly, Polster is proven at a recognised level, whereas Gutman is less so.

However, right now, it’s hard to tell which of these potential signings is superior or even whether or not they would challenge for a starting spot at either Old Firm club.

One thing’s for sure though, there has been quite a lot of hype surrounding the Americans.

If and when they eventually don the jersey of either club, there will be pressure to perform unlike they’ve ever experienced in the US.
