Reports: Liverpool talent travelling for medical as Rangers rumours end

Rumours linking Leighton Clarkson with a move to Rangers will be put to bed soon enough amid claims he is rejoining Aberdeen.

Rangers have already secured one midfield addition this summer with Kieran Dowell arriving from Norwich City.

Another could soon follow in LAFC star Jose Cifuentes but there have also been links to Liverpool’s Leighton Clarkson.

Football Insider reported in May that Rangers had joined the race to sign Clarkson.

Rivals Celtic were also keen whilst Aberdeen – where Clarkson impressed on loan this past season – wanted a return to Pittodrie.

Rangers boss Michael Beale may well be aware of Clarkson from the Liverpool ranks and he certainly impressed in Scotland last season.

Clarkson racked up six goals and nine assists for Aberdeen, becoming a fan favourite with some stunning strikes.

Now 21, Clarkson seemingly isn’t in Liverpool’s plans and is available this summer – but won’t be heading to Rangers.

Leighton Clarkson set for Aberdeen

Clarkson is heading back to Scotland but it’s Aberdeen rather than Rangers on the verge of signing him.

The Press and Journal report that Aberdeen have won the race and could announce Clarkson as their latest signing today.

The Athletic claim that a fee has now been agreed between Aberdeen and Liverpool with Clarkson travelling for a medical.

A ‘long-term contract’ is on offer at Aberdeen and Clarkson is ready to sign on the dotted line.

It’s stated that English Championship clubs wanted to sign Clarkson but he wanted the move to Aberdeen instead.

Rangers will now have to face Clarkson as an Aberdeen player for the foreseeable future.

Maybe Rangers will keep tabs on Clarkson moving forward though, just in case the possibility of a transfer emerges down the line.

Ryan Jack and Scott Wright traded Aberdeen for Rangers in recent times and the Gers could feasibly move for Clarkson in the future if he continues to shine in Scotland.
