This comes after Newcastle United cut the loan switch of previous number two Martin Dubravka short, with Jack Butland set to play second fiddle to David de Gea at Old Trafford.

The England international goalkeeper has yet to play for Crystal Palace this season and despite his nine caps for the Three Lions has seen his career stutter in recent seasons.

Rangers were previously linked to the player in the summer amid much debate regarding the goalkeeper position but for now that talk will be shelved with Man United set to secure a loan deal.

The reports originated in the Sun and claimed that Rangers and Premier League Bournemouth were both interested in a securing a deal in the summer.

Journalist Alan Nixon also claimed at the time that a deal was there to be done by Rangers if they so wanted it.

Jack Butland is also out of contract at Selhurst Park come the end of the season so it is certainly an interesting time for the player as he prepares a switch to Man United.

The switch comes at an interesting time for Rangers goalkeepers too, with Ibrox manager Michael Beale claiming a new stopper is not on the club’s radar.

The position has come in for much scrutiny amid a downturn in form from veteran Allan McGregor, some shaky performances from Jon McLaughlin and a lack of opportunity for Robby McCrorie.

“[We] won’t be strengthening the goalkeeper position next month,” said Beale.

“When the ball goes in the goal, everyone looks at the goalkeeper for a mistake.

”We’re in a healthy place. I do get it, when the ball goes in, everyone looks at the goalkeeper.

“I trust all the keepers here and I have a lot of faith in them.”

Whilst Jack Butland prepares to head to Man United, Rangers have also been dealt a transfer blow by Chelsea.
