Reported Ibrox transfer target Fashion Sakala has spoken out about his future amid rumours of a pre-contract swoop from Rangers [Glasgow Live].
Sakala has 13 caps at senior international level for Zambia and is currently playing his club football for Belgian First Division A side KV Oostende.
The striker, who previously played for Nchanga Rangers and Zanaco in his homeland prior to a brief stint with Spartak Moscow, has netted eights goals and notched two assists from 18 appearances so far this season.
His current deal expires in the summer and the Gers are allegedly keen on a pre-contract swoop. They aren’t the only club said to be interested, either, with Belgian giants Anderlecht as well as Premier League sides Newcastle and West Ham all also linked [Glasgow Live].
However, it appears that Sakala could yet opt to remain with his current club as he’s hinted that offers of an extension would be well received.
“It won’t be difficult for KVO to keep me here,” he said [Glasgow Live]. “I’m happy and the team is doing well.”
“We’ll see what happens after the season.”
Rangers do have previous in terms of negotiating pre-contract deals and of raiding the Belgian market, with both Ianis Hagi and Kemar Roofe signed from First Division clubs in the summer.
KVO have been the surprise package in the league so far this term. They only narrowly avoided relegation at the end of the 2019/20 campaign but they have already surpassed their tally from that season and are currently in sixth place.
Regardless of how well KVO are faring, though, it’s surely unlikely that Sakala will stay put if a bumper contract is offered by either Rangers or one of the other big clubs linked with a move.
One advantage Rangers may have in the race for his signature is the lure of European football, something none of Newcastle, West Ham or Anderlecht can guarantee to potential signings.
Sakala will come up against the Gers’ Europa League Round of 32 opponents Antwerp on Saturday, who recently shot up the league table after an important win.
