Reported Rangers target Daniel Johnson was left out of Preston North End’s matchday squad on Sunday afternoon with the transfer deadline less than 48 hours away.
Rangers have been linked with a multi-million-pound move for the Jamaican midfielder [Daily Record] but Preston made it clear in September that no deal had been agreed, hinting the Gers would need to up their initial offer to land the midfielder.

Johnson has been out for several weeks with a groin injury but ahead of Preston’s trip to Brentford on Sunday, their Match Preview suggested he was in contention to return to action.

Yet, there was no place for him in the starting XI or on the bench at the Brentford Community Stadium.
Preston’s official Twitter account stated that injury had sidelined the 27-year-old once again, but several fans weren’t convinced by the claim.

It could be a coincidence that Johnson missed out on the eve of deadline day, but his absence may bring hope for Rangers fans who want to see their club strengthen in midfield.
Johnson scored an impressive 12 times and notched eight assists from 33 Championship outings for Preston last season but is yet to make a league appearance this campaign.
