Rangers are chasing a double deal for Nottingham Forest defender Jonathan Panzo and Swansea City winger Morgan Whittaker.

That is according to the Daily Record, who claim that Michael Beale is in talks to sign both Panzo and Whittaker.

Deals are being chased for goalkeeper Jack Butland and midfielder Jose Cifuentes, whilst talks are on for Cremonese striker Cyriel Dessers.

Beale hasn’t forgotten about Panzo and Whittaker though with negotiations ongoing to bring both players to Ibrox.

Panzo and Whittaker have been linked with Rangers for some time now and summer deals are now in the pipeline.

Why do Rangers want Jonathan Panzo?

Panzo is currently on the books at Nottingham Forest and is returning from a season-long loan at Coventry City.

Panzo missed out on winning promotion with Coventry, losing to Luton Town in the Championship play-off final.

Now heading back to Forest, Panzo’s future at the City Ground is uncertain and a permanent exit could make sense.

Beale knows Panzo well having worked together in the Chelsea ranks – just like recent signing Dujon Sterling.

That connection could come into play here with Panzo now targeted to bolster the Rangers back line.

Panzo can play as a left-sided centre back or left back if needed, giving Beale a certain level of tactical flexibility at the back.

A left-footed defender is an important target for Rangers this summer, offering competition for Ben Davies and a replacement for Filip Helander.

Why do Rangers want Morgan Whittaker?

Rangers chased Whittaker in January but it just wasn’t meant to be as Swansea stood firm and kept the winger.

Whittaker spent the first half of the season on loan at Plymouth Argyle, excelling with nine goals and seven assists in 25 games.

The 22-year-old barely featured for Swansea upon his January recall though and few would blame him for chasing a summer exit.

Whittaker is a natural left-footer, something Rangers lack in terms of their attacking balance.

Capable of playing on the right flank or off the striker, Whittaker has often shown the ability to drive at defenders and cause problems in the final third.

The former Derby County man has yet to really shine for Swansea though and it would be a big step up to the expectation levels at Rangers.
