Former Rangers duo Russell Martin and Josh Windass could now reunite with Championship club Southampton.

Swansea City boss Martin has been heavily linked with the Southampton job for weeks now and yet still no deal has been done.

The expectation is that Martin will eventually complete his move but for now, both Southampton and Swansea are in limbo.

Martin will have some targets in mind if he does finalise his move to Southampton.

A big rebuilding job could be on the cards for the former Rangers defender, who made a short-term move to Ibrox in 2018.

The likes of Kyle Walker-Peters, James Ward-Prowse and Romeo Lavia are all expected to leave Southampton after relegation to the Championship.

Martin must move quickly in the transfer market and one of his transfer ideas involves a Rangers reunion.

The Sheffield Star now claim that Southampton are interested in snapping up Windass this summer.

It’s claimed that Southampton actually wanted Windass in January, having scored against the Saints in November.

A deal didn’t happen then but the arrival of Martin could only heighten Southampton’s interest in signing Windass.

Southampton are expected to ‘test Wednesday’s resolve’ over Windass this summer.

Windass enjoyed a superb season, bagging 16 goals and seven assists in all competitions as well as scoring the dramatic play-off final goal to take Wednesday into the Championship.

The 29-year-old is now into the final year of his contract at Hillsborough and could be tempted away.

Martin and Windass know each other from their brief time together at Rangers.

Martin arrived on loan at Rangers in January 2018 and featured alongside Windass until the end of that season.

The pair played together 14 times for Ranger,s recording eight wins, two draws and four defeats.

Martin has turned to management but hasn’t forgotten about what Windass can do – and we could now see a Rangers reunion on the South Coast.
