A Glasgow Times report has supported claims from club insider account Four Lads Had a Dream, asserting that Ianis Hagi will choose Rangers over Lazio in the summer.

Earlier in the week, a La Lazio Siamo Noi report, which was subsequently picked up by the Daily Record, suggested that the Hagi had been offered to Lazio by an agent and that he would prefer a move to Italy over remaining in Scotland.

However, on Wednesday afternoon, the claims were dismissed as ‘absolute rubbish’ by club insider Twitter account, Four Lads Had a Dream.

Now, the Glasgow Times has backed up Four Lads’ assertions.

The report recognises interest from Lazio, the club currently sitting second in Serie A, but insists that the Romania international has distanced himself from a move, instead reiterating his commitment to Rangers.

The playmaker is currently only on loan from Belgian top-flight side, Genk, but the Gers have an exclusive option to buy come the summer.

Verdict

This is further good news for Rangers fans, the vast majority of whom want Hagi on board on a permanent basis.

While he’s struggled at times to adapt to the Scottish Premiership when deployed in a wide role, he’s been hugely influential when allowed to operate slightly more centrally in European matches.

His brace at Ibrox and wonderful assist in Portugal helped the Gers defeat a strong Braga side over two legs in the Europa League Round of 32.

If the Tokyo Olympics go ahead as scheduled this summer, Hagi may miss the beginning of the 2020/21 club season due to international commitments, but that would be a small price to pay to have his quality and creativity on board.
