The Daily Record reports that Hibernian are interested in signing Rangers winger Jamie Murphy.

The 31-year-old hasn’t featured in a competitive fixture for the Gers so far this season and has only made the matchday squad on two occasions.

On Friday, Steven Gerrard admitted that he wouldn’t stand in the Scotland international’s way if he wanted to leave Ibrox [The Herald] and those comments come amid alleged interest from Hibs.

The Daily Record claims that the Edinburgh club have opened talks, with a loan or a permanent move both currently on the table.

It’s suggested that Murphy feels he needs to be playing first-team football but that the Gers would require a six-figure fee for him to be released from the final year of his contract.

Hibernian interested in Rangers winger Murphy – Verdict

This looks to be the third time the Hibees have attempted to sign a player from Rangers this summer.

Jack Ross reportedly tried to bring Ross McCrorie to Easter Road [Daily Record] but the Scotland U21 skipper eventually opted for a move to Aberdeen in a loan deal with an obligation to buy for £350,000 next summer [Glasgow Live].

Hibs sporting director, Graeme Mathie, also recently confirmed that they wanted to sign Greg Docherty from the Gers following his loan stint in Edinburgh last season [Longbangers Podcast], but the player opted to join Hull City in a transfer worth a reported £400,000 [Hull Daily Mail].

Now, it seems like they are going for third time lucky.

Murphy is stuck behind Ryan Kent at Ibrox and with opportunities unlikely to be forthcoming, it’s probably best for all parties that he now moves on.

Hibs currently sit top of the Premiership table alongside Rangers and their attacking style of football would likely suit Murphy, who scored seven times in ten appearances whilst on loan at Burton Albion last season.
