Rangers have released Charlie Lindsay and the youngster has admitted that ‘big clubs in England’ are now trying to sign him.

The Gers have decided to release a number of young players this summer.

Rangers announced earlier in June that Kai Kennedy, Tony Weston, Murray Miller, Kevin Ciubotaru, Lewis MacKinnon, Kelsey Ewen, Harley Ewen and Alex Kpakpe are all moving on.

Lindsay was also included in that list as he looks to thrive away from Ibrox.

Lindsay joined Rangers from Northern Irish side Glentoran in 2020 and there was considerable hype around him.

Steven Davis suggested that Lindsay has ‘huge potential’ whilst Glentoran academy coach David Lowry backed him to make a big impact for Rangers.

First-team minutes never came for Lindsay but his B team numbers were always very impressive.

12 goals and six assists in 33 Lowland League games this past season showed Lindsay’s potential as a goalscoring midfielder.

Rangers still decided to let the 19-year-old leave this summer and Lindsay believes a big move could be on the horizon.

Lindsay has told the Daily Record that ‘big clubs in England’ are trying to sign him and he is looking forward to the next step in his career.

“I just want to go to a club who are ambitious because I want to kick on,” said Lindsay. “There is some interest from some big clubs in England, so we will see what develops. It is nice to hear there is interest but you can’t look into that too much. I just need to keep working hard.”

“I have been training hard to make sure I am in the best shape wherever I end up next season. I want to push to get first-team minutes and to keep getting better as a player and a person. I just want to keep my career going forward,” he added.

Where could former Rangers talent Charlie Lindsay end up?

Reports from the Daily Record [15 May, 17:33] suggested that a few English teams are very keen.

Championship side Sunderland are interested whilst League One outfit Derby County are keen after missing out on promotion.

Sunderland love to sign young players and have already pounced this summer for the likes of Luis Semedo, Nectarios Triantis and Jenson Seelt.

Lindsay would certainly fit into Sunderland’s current transfer policy and he may well receive chances to play.

Former Rangers man Amad Diallo excelled at Sunderland last season and Lindsay could follow in his footsteps.

Both Sunderland and Derby fit into Lindsay’s description of big English clubs and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him shine after leaving Rangers.
