Former Rangers player Andrew Shinnie has been snapped up by Livingston after a spell at Charlton Athletic.
Shinnie came through the youth system at Ibrox and made his first-team debut in 2007 against Aberdeen.
Later that year, he scored in a Scottish Youth Cup final win over Celtic, before being handed a three-year professional contract.
Two loan spells at Dundee followed, but he wasn’t able to establish himself at senior level upon returning to Ibrox and was eventually released at the end of the 2010/11 season.
Since then, he’s turned out for Inverness Caledonian Thistle, Birmingham City, Rotherham United, Hibernian, Luton Town and Charlton.
It was confirmed in May that the 32-year-old, who has a senior Scotland cap, hadn’t been retained by the Addicks and he suggested in a Daily Record interview that he would be open to heading back north.
Now, his return to Scotland has been confirmed, with Livingston announcing his capture on a two-year deal on Monday afternoon.
“I’m over the moon to bring someone of Andrew’s quality to the club,” said Livi boss David Martindale [Livingstonfc.co.uk]. “I honestly think it’s a real coup for the club and testament to Livingston FC as a whole that Andrew decided to sign here for the next two seasons.”
“I see Andrew operating anywhere along the front 4. He is technically gifted, looks after the ball well and understands the game. He brings a wealth of experience to the squad and I’m sure will prove an invaluable asset going forward, both on and off the park.”
Shinnie will wear the no.22 shirt for Livi during the upcoming season and could make his debut in the Premier Sports Cup against Raith Rovers on Wednesday night.
He’ll be hoping to cement a spot in the starting XI by the time the Lions travel to Ibrox on the first weekend of the Premiership season.
