Rangers won’t be signing 14-goal striker as half-price transfer agreed

Rangers have been linked with Jerry Yates on a number of occasions but the Blackpool striker is now heading to Swansea City.

It was no great secret that Rangers would be focusing on attacking signings this summer.

Ryan Kent and Alfredo Morelos have left Ibrox whilst question marks surround Antonio Colak and Rabbi Matondo.

Rangers have now brought in three attacking players with the versatile Sam Lammers and Abdallah Sima joined by centre forward Cyriel Dessers.

Any more additions would surely depend on a departure or two amid links to Feyenoord ace Danilo.

One name we can now cross off the list is Blackpool forward Jerry Yates.

The Sun’s Alan Nixon claimed in April that Rangers had scouted Yates in action for Blackpool twice in quick succession.

This came after The Sun reported Rangers’ interest in Yates back in November, quoting a £5million price tag.

Rangers had scouted Yates in action against Blackpool’s bitter rivals Preston North End, with the striker scoring twice.

No move has materialised and Rangers have gone in another direction, meaning Yates is now heading elsewhere after Blackpool’s relegation.

BBC Sport claim that Swansea City have now had a £2.5million bid accepted for Yates.

That’s a half-price deal from the initial £5million demands as Blackpool adjust to life back in League One.

The 26-year-old will now undergo a medical in South Wales ahead of completing his move to Swansea.

Yates scored 14 goals for Blackpool last season but they came in rather streaky fashion with the former Rotherham United forward now seeking consistency at Swansea.

Rangers won’t be losing sleep over this one, especially having already invested in two higher profile attackers in Lammers and Dessers.

Add in a promising youngster in Sima and Rangers surely won’t feel that they have missed out by not signing Yates.
