Rangers global search for new players is throwing up some interesting names, however, Nils Koppen’s net being cast so far and wide comes with its own problems.
There is a lot of reliance on journalists as well as the obligatory YouTube compilations to assess the quality of potential targets but there is nothing better than local knowledge.
Speaking to The Rangers Review, Julien Asensio of Argentinian media outlet Bodegue TV has been explaining what Thomas Galdames could offer if he signs on the dotted line at Ibrox.

Ideas of the Chilean being a no-nonsense defender might not strictly be true.
The 25-year old himself says that he prefers playing at centre-half.
His qualities paint an entirely different picture though with Asensio explaining where his best position and what his style of play is:
“In Godoy Cruz he normally plays as a left-back, on some occasions he has even played as a central defender, but he stands out much more playing as a winger and on some occasions overflowing the attack on the left side.
“His style of football is fast-paced and dynamic, passing and advancing, he stands out for throwing good crosses into the area and in some cases, he usually takes free kicks, in addition, he is a player who fights for the ball until the end.”

On paper, Thomas Galdames has the sort of versatility that allows a manager to trim his squad and save a few pounds in the process.
Rangers wouldn’t need four senior centre-halves and two left-backs if he is capable of covering both positions.
Like Dujon Sterling, only right footed, being able to cover higher up as a last resort is also a valuable skillset.
Rangers full-backs need to be able to contribute in the final third and it looks like Galdames is more than capable of chipping in with the added bonus of being physical too.
Clinton Nsiala has been confirmed and is an out-and-out central defender which suggests that Galdames is being targeted for the left-sided roles.
His contract with Godoy Cruz expires at the end of the season so, despite Asensio’s near £2m valuation, Rangers would be in pole position if a pre-contract agreement can be reached.
Every player that Rangers have been linked with so far have been robust physically with no worrying medical histories, they have also all been praised for their ability on the ball.
