By the time Rangers return to action, the countdown to the transfer window opening will be well and truly on with Philippe Clement given assurances about potential incomings.
The Gers boss will also have had long enough to assess most of his players and will have an idea of where he will want to strengthen.
Rangers will look to add more quality again in January but where exactly will Philippe Clement target?
Where Rangers need to strengthen under Philippe Clement
Left-back
Based on the shape and formation we have seen so far, what the manager decides to do could depend on any potential departures.
For example Ridvan Yilmaz looks like a good player but doesn’t have the physicality needed to be an SPFL defender.
The flip side of this is that Borna Barisic is out of contract in the summer which leaves Rangers, and Philippe Clement with a decision to make about the left-back position.
Defensive midfield
John Lundstram, who has been singing the boss’s praises, looks nailed on for one of two roles under Clement but his current deal expires at the end of the season.
Other than Ryan Jack, there is nobody else who could be considered as a defensive midfielder with Nicolas Raskin more of a hybrid.
A player who can protect the defence, build play and fire defence splitting passes from anywhere on the park could be a priority.
A winger
Abdallah Sima, technically, isn’t ours so we either need to make a decision on his future and speak to Brighton about how much they want or start to look elsewhere but it is clear that he is a key component of our attack.
Rabbi Matondo, Scott Wright and Ross McCausland just isn’t a good enough group to choose from if we want to win things and do well in Europe.
With Rangers only likely to sign 2-3 players, I would expect two of these roles to be addressed straight away by Philippe Clement with others, as mentioned, more dependent on any possible exits.
What his opening period as manager has shown though, is that he has earned the right to be backed.
