Rangers transfer pursuit ends as announcement made on striker target

Rangers have officially announced the signing of Colombian striker Juan Alegria after a long-term pursuit of the forward stretching back over a year and a half.

The Gers had reportedly been tailing the player since his time in Colombia and the club agreed on an undisclosed fee to bring the player from FC Honka in Finland this week.

The 19-year-old will join the Ibrox’s clubs B Team in the Lowland League this season and will then likely be assessed by the Gers backroom staff with a view to moving into the first team.

Colombia to Finland to Ibrox is a path that has been travelled before by Rangers Colombian forward Alfredo Morelos but this is where the similarities could end between the two as this pursuit finally comes to an end.

Whilst both are strikers Alegria’s game is said to be more based around explosiveness and agility compared to El Bufalo’s boisterous and commanding style.

Pipe Sierra of Win Sports TV, who have previously done interviews with Alfredo Morelos, claimed earlier in the week that Rangers have paid an initial £85k to bring the player to Ibrox.

Alegria only moved to Honka in September last year following the expiration of his contract at Deportes Tolima.

Playing for Honka this season, Alegria netted a double in a 4-1 demolition of Veikkausliiga rival Ilves earlier in the month.

If the Colombian youth international Alegria can go on to have a similar impact as Alfie at Ibrox then this will prove shrewd business by the Gers.

Speaking of signings going into the B team, one summer move is already showing Manchester United what they’re missing after joining the Gers.
