Rangers have been linked with moves for Sunderland duo Anthony Patterson and Dan Neil ahead of the transfer window.

While Lawrence Shankland has already joined Rangers, the window officially opens in the middle of June.

Danny Rohl is keen on strengthening his midfield as well as signing a new goalkeeper as part of his rebuild.

Rangers working on Anthony Patterson and Dan Neil deals

According to reliable journalist Alan Nixon, the Gers are actively working on signing both Patterson and Neil this summer.

There is a delay in signing Neil as the deal still needs to be agreed, but that is expected to go through sooner rather than later.

With regards to the Patterson deal, the Black Cats appear to be quoting £8m, which would make him an expensive acquisition.

However, it is not something that Sunderland are unwilling to budge on, and could even reduce their asking rate.

Rangers will enter negotiations with the Premier League outfit for the 26-year-old, who wants to leave the Stadium of Light.

Patterson wants to play regularly and that is not going to happen at Sunderland, making an exit on the cards.

Kieron Brady delivers verdict on Patterson’s £8m valuation

Former Sunderland midfielder Kieron Brady believes that the Black Cats should have no problem selling their second-choice goalkeeper.

However, he thinks that the £8m being mentioned is a lot for a team like Rangers to pay for him.

He does not see other clubs also willing to pay that much and expects Sunderland to agree on a lower fee.

Brady told the BBC: “Sunderland may well contend that they are selling their second-choice goalkeeper, albeit they allowed him to go on loan and get some game time.

“Is £8m a lot of money these days? The only thing that I think could potentially prove a stumbling block for any transfer would be that the clubs that are referred to, I would have some reservations that any of those clubs would be prepared to pay £8m for a goalkeeper.

“It’s a lot of money for a Championship club to pay for a goalkeeper and given the revenue within the Scottish game, £8m would be a lot for Celtic or Rangers to pay for a keeper.”
