Rangers face a transfer dilemma at the centre of defence as high profile moves for Auston Trusty and Jonathan Panzo fall flat and nerves spread around the club’s shaky backline.
The Gers back four is as injury-plagued as it is consistently inconsistent with Connor Goldson, John Souttar, Leon Balogun and Ben Davies all likely to spend spells out injured this season.
It is a tad reckless to rely on all four of these players being consistently fit for the club given that all four have never been consistently fit in their entire careers.
Connor Goldson, who spent time out with a heart issue earlier in his career, is now seeing time catching up with him after his relentless presence at centre-back.
Leon Balogun, for all his experience, is also a regular sick note whilst the less said about the injury history of the stumbling John Souttar the better.
Of the four, Ben Davies is currently injured and there are continuing murmurs around a potential exit from Ibrox in the weeks ahead.

Rangers must reinforce defence
Even with teenage option Leon King it leaves Rangers woefully underprepared in defence and whilst millions have been spent on the frontline, it’ll be no use if the club doesn’t keep it tight at the back.
Not that there haven’t been targets; left-sided centre-back appears to be a particular area of concern with former Arsenal defender Auston Trusty routinely mentioned.
However, the USA international defender has just moved to Sheffield United in a £5m deal with the club no longer interested in signing the stopper as a result.

Then there is Nottingham Forest stopper Jonathan Panzo, Rangers’ interest in the defender Romano’d earlier in the window amid talk of a £2.5m move.
However, after all the speculation and amid much competition, a deal looks to be off.
It leaves Rangers fans scratching their heads with what happens next at the centre of defence with the club’s calamitous defending costing all three points at the weekend.
It’s a situation which needs resolved with urgency with the best teams always built from the back.
