Rangers are to open contract talks with talented young centre-back Leon King amid links to Premier League pair Man United and Newcastle United.
That’s according to reputable football journalist Pete O’Rourke, who took to Twitter to make the claim amid growing reports regarding the Red Devils’ interest in the 17-year-old.

King – who has been on impressive form with the Ibrox club’s B Team this season – signed his first professional contract with the Gers in March 2020 [Rangers].
At the time, the Gers were said to have fended off major interest from the likes of Liverpool to tie down the talented youngster on an initial two-year deal.
That is set to expire in the summer and according to O’Rourke, Rangers are looking to fend off interest from the Premier League by opening talks over a new deal with King’s representatives.
This comes after Football Insider claimed that Man United and Newcastle United were monitoring the situation concerning Rangers starlet Leon King.
That report claims that English Premier League sides are aware of the defender’s current contract situation and that they could land the player for as little as £250k.
Leon King coy on Premier League links, insists focus is on Rangers
Speaking ahead of the Rangers B Team’s upcoming SPFL Truth Trophy clash with Cove Rangers, King was coy on the reported interest from south of the border as he spoke about his focus at Ibrox.
The defender is amongst the highest-rated talents at not just Rangers but in the country and was included on the bench for the 2-0 Europa League victory over Sparta Prague.
“To be honest, I’m just focusing on my football here and I don’t really take any interest in what goes on outside this building and outside these gates,” said Leon [Follow, Follow].
“That’s what I’m aiming for [to get into the first team]. With the new boss coming in, I’ve seen at his previous clubs he’s given youngsters a chance so that’s what I’m striving towards.
“Getting there [on the bench v Sparta] and training with them when he [GVB] first came in was good so I’m just trying to kick on and get there more regularly.”
Rangers fans will be hoping to see the side hold off one of the most talented players in the squad in King and hopefully talk of a new contract comes to fruition.
Through the likes of Billy Gilmour, Premier League outfits have seen that Rangers do have young talents on their books but any talk of a return for the Scotland international may be premature.
