Rangers are set for transfer talks with Super Lig giants Fenerbahce this week regarding Bright Osayi-Samuel following a request from Steven Gerrard, according to Takvim.

It’s the latest of several reports linking the Gers with Osayi-Samuel.

The 23-year-old winger was said to be an Ibrox target ahead of the most recent January transfer window when he was still playing under former Gers boss Mark Warburton at QPR [Scottish Sun].

Warburton was a big fan, calling him ‘dangerous’ and a ‘constant threat’ after a Championship match in November 2020 [BT Sport], but Osayi-Samuel opted to leave Loftus Road for Turkey, initially signing a pre-contract agreement before a deal was reached for him to move straight away.

However, his first few months in the Super Lig weren’t successful and there’s once again speculation about his future.

Earlier this month, Glasgow Live reported via TumSport that the Gers had made an approach for the talented Nigerian, before a series of confusing links emerged, one of which appeared to suggest a loan-to-buy option may be workable.

Now, Takvim claims that formal transfer talks are imminent, after Gerrard specifically requested a swoop for Osayi-Samuel.

It’s asserted that the Gers will begin with an offer of €3m (£2.6m) but that Fener want a fee of €4m (£3.4m).

The amount of speculation in recent times suggests that there could be some genuine interest here on Rangers’ part and if so, surely a gap of less than £1m in terms of the two clubs’ valuation of the player can be overcome.

The Gers certainly aren’t short of wingers ahead of the 2021/22 season, with the likes of Jordan Jones, Brandon Barker, Glenn Middleton and Jake Hastie all returning from loan spells to join Ryan Kent and Scott Wright, while new recruit Fashion Sakala can also play out wide.

However, the majority of those players haven’t yet proven themselves at Ibrox and it’s plausible that the manager wants extra quality and someone who can nail down the right-side attacking berth.

The Gers have also been linked with an impressive EFL winger and it’s been suggested that he may only cost £500k.
