Michael Beale has signed nine players this summer but the contract of Steven Davis is one that could be key to Rangers success according to one transfer journalist.
As British football’s most capped player, the Northern Ireland legend is a respected figure throughout the game.
A cruel knee injury saw Steven Davis miss the second half of the season with his playing day at Rangers now under threat, but Dean Jones, speaking to GiveMeSport has still backed him to be a positive influence.
Given the players that Michael Beale has brought into midfield, the chances of Davis making a difference on the pitch are slim.
Reports of Steven Davis being offered a new contract are interesting despite Rangers strengthening.

Jones has backed Steven Davis’s presence around Auchenhowie to be important as a player who has been a serial winner for Rangers so many times before in the past:
“It’s interesting that Rangers are talking to him about a new contract but also not a surprise really. Michael Beale really respects and admires him and for months now there has been a chance that he will stick around.
“He’s invaluable in terms of the team’s identity and character and even in a non-playing role would have benefits to Rangers moving forward.
“That’s something they will pursue at some point, but firstly he obviously wants to see if he can get back to playing.
“If they could get him back again it could be one of their best signings of the summer.”
If Steven Davis doesn’t get injured, he wouldn’t still be at Rangers.
The bench against Kilmarnock had Ryan Jack, Ianis Hagi, Todd Cantwell and Jose Cifuentes on it, there simply isn’t room for him.
With a reported £8,000 per week salary according to Salary Sport, it would be highly unlikely if he is still on or offfered similar terms but Michael Beale is right.
Davis deserves to go out on his own terms and to get the send-off he deserves whether as a player or not.
