Reported Rangers target Kai Wagner has been spotted training in Germany as Philadelphia Union wait on their latest contract offer.

The flying left-back, 26, is currently keeping himself fit back in his homeland at the end of the MLS season as he mulls over his next step in football.

Having played in the lower leagues in Germany, Rangers-linked Kai Wagner has begun making something of a name for himself in the USA as a regular assister from left-back.

Laying on 32 assists in 170 games from the position for the Union, Wagner laid on 11 last season and is very highly rated by the MLS club.

Kai Wagner spotted training in Germany

Uploading some videos to his official Instagram story, Kai Wagner has been spotted training in Germany as he looks to keep up his fitness in the off-season.

Currently out-of-contract at the MLS side, Philadelphia Union fans might be buoyed by the use of official club training gear amid much transfer talk surrounding the left-back.

The social media activity comes an interesting time for Kai Wagner, who has an offer of an extension on the table from Philadelphia Union amid links to Rangers.

Speaking about the situation earlier in December, Union Sporting Director Ernst Tanner also claims it’s an offer which has an expiry date.

“There is an offer out for him and it was very much appreciated what we offered,” said Tanner at an end of season press conference on December 4th.

“There is no decision until that. I’m just waiting for the feedback. I won’t tell you the deadline, but it will be soon.

“The question is for Kai is whether he wants to seek the challenge in Europe or if we wants to stay here and pursue his career in MLS. That’s what he needs to decide.”

Philadelphia Union left-back linked to Ibrox

Reports this week named Kai Wagner, 26, as one of two left-backs being scouted by Rangers alongside PSV talent Fredrik Oppegard as Philippe Clement looks to bolster his squad.

Initially those links between Director of Recruitment Nils Koppen and PSV Eindhoven suggested an Ibrox move for the young Norwegian Oppegard could be more likely.

But given Wagner’s contract situation, and his attacking role in the Philadelphia Union team, it’s the Marseille-linked German left-back whose status has turned the heads of many Rangers fans.

Rangers of course have two left-back options in Borna Barisic and Ridvan Yilmaz, although both are approaching interesting junctures in their Ibrox careers.

Barisic, who has been at Rangers since 2018, is out of contract at the end of the season whilst Ridvan Yilmaz continues to be linked with a return to Turkey.
