Josh Maja is one of the biggest tap-ins that Michael Beale could score for Rangers this summer.

Out of contract, at an age where he can still be developed, an international with elite level experience and with an affordable salary, Maja – whether you rate him or not – ticks a lot of boxes.

When Lille had a £16.25million bid for Alfredo Morelos rejected, it was the Bordeaux striker’s name that was most prominent in the list of potential replacements and it would now appear as though his name has never been fully rubbed out.

Josh Maja and form that should earn Rangers move

This season, Maja took a 50% wage cut when Bordeaux were relegated to Ligue 2 and narrowly avoided being dropped into France’s third tier due to financial irregularities but it is a decision that has paid dividends.

Scoring his 14th goal of the season against Bastia at the weekend to make it 19 goal contributions in 33 appearances, the 24-year old is showing the sort of form that made him one of English football’s hottest prospects at Sunderland.

It’s also easy to see why there are reports that Bordeaux are trying to extend the striker’s current contract and sign him up for next season and beyond.

Two goals and two assists in his last four games are further evidence of a man in form and Josh Maja will not be short of offers when the time comes to make a decision.

Michael Beale has his eye on a target who wasn’t available in January but is available in the summer and it may be that the Gers gaffer is hoping to land a player who he’s been watching since sitting as Steven Gerrard’s right-hand man.
