Rangers are set to miss out on midfielder Alhassan Yusuf who will join Europa League rivals Royal Antwerp.
That’s according to contentious journalist Fabrizio Romano, who claims the 20-year-old Nigerian star is set to join the ranks of the Great Old in Belgium.
Romano made the claims via Facebook and suggests that Yusuf will complete a £1.3m (€1.5m) transfer from IFK Goteborg in Sweden directly.
“Nigerian midfielder Alhassan Yusuf will join Royal Antwerp in Belgium. Done deal and agreement reached for €1.5m to Göteborg,” said Romano, via Voetbal Primeur.
This comes after the Nigerian prospect was linked to Ibrox via a report in the player’s home country earlier in the week.
SCORE Nigeria claim that both Steven Gerrard’s side and newly-promoted Premier League outfit Brentford had contacted IFK about the player.
This was after the Gers had announced the signing of John Lundstram, who joins Rangers on a free after his contract expired at Sheffield United.
That report claimed that Goteborg’s asking price was somewhere between £2.6m (€3m) and £3.4m (€4m) so if the player is to move for a touch over £1m it will come as a surprise.
Despite his tender age, the midfielder has already amassed an impressive 76 appearances for the Swedish club and going by these reports is a player in demand.

But apparently, Rangers have once again missed out to a Belgian side for a player in Sweden after a similar scenario reportedly happened earlier in the season.
Rangers’ reported interest in a Kenyan international plying his trade in the country ended when the player signed a deal with KAA Gent.
