Rangers links to Swansea City winger Cameron Congreve have been branded “nonsense” by a leading Ibrox-centric journalist who also gave an update on the pursuit of Bayern’s Malik Tillman.

Derek Clark took to Twitter to respond to claims that Rangers had launched a loan bid for the 18-year-old winger before he signed a new deal at Swansea.com Stadium.

The Rangers Review journalist also claimed that Bayern star and USA international Malik Tillman is “one of a number” of players of the Ibrox side are looking at this summer.

The claims come after Football Insider had suggested Rangers had tried to lure Cameron Congreve to Ibrox this season and tempted Swansea with a loan bid.

The youngster broke through into Russell Martin’s side last season and made five appearances for the ex-Rangers defender in the Championship.

After signing the new deal, Cameron Congreve is expected to feature more heavily for the Swans and that’s all well and good for the 18-year-old winger but it has little do with Rangers.

At least that’s according to Derek Clark, who has moved quickly to quash the suggestion Rangers were ever interested in the player.

However, those links to Bayern star Malik Tillman don’t appear to be going anywhere even if the Cameron Congreve ones do.

Rangers were linked with a move for Tillman, 20, earlier in the week but things have gone a little stagnant with regards reports in the press.

However, Clark’s tweet suggests the Bears still have an interest in the twice-capped USA international and it’s an exciting link given his seven top team appearances at Bayern.

The links to Malik Tillman also come after Rangers reportedly failed in a bid to bring French midfielder and ex-Angers star Angelo Fulgini to Ibrox.

The ex-French U21 international opted to move to Mainz instead and unlike Cameron Congreve no-one from within Rangers has tried to rubbish the links via journalists.

Speaking after signing the deal, Fulgini also suggested that he was sold on the Bundesliga move by a now £13m Premier League defender.
