Rangers surely tempted to cash in amid Euro reports and £5m deal

As Turkish champions Trabzonspor are linked with a move for Rangers star Borna Barisic, we ask if it’s time the Gers moved the 29-year-old full-back on?

The Croatian international once again failed to cover himself in glory as the Gers fell to a 2-0 Champions League qualifying defeat to Belgian side Union Saint Gilloise.

With the Ibrox side’s Champions League campaign hanging by a thread, remarkably if Borna was to move to Super Lig winners Trabzonspor he’d be in the competition next season.

According to Turkish outlet Fotomac, Trabzonspor are considering a move for Borna Barisic after Rangers raided Turkey for a left-back of their own.

Besiktas star Ridvan Yilmaz joins the Gers on a £5m deal and it’s expected the 21-year-old, signed to replace Calvin Bassey, will take the first-team slot at left-back.

Based on Barisic’s floundering performances, getting the young Turk into the first team cannot come quick enough.

Yilmaz’ role as first-team starter has also been highlighted by the Fotomac report, which claims Trabzonspor could reignite interest in Borna Barisic from earlier in the window.

For Rangers fans, Barisic is a likeable figure who has produced some big moments for the club but too often has also been unreliable.

From the beginning of his Ibrox career, Borna has shown himself to be mentally fragile and painfully inconsistent, something worsened by the fact Rangers have relied so heavily on Barisic.

In total the left-back has made 156 appearances for the Ibrox side and there have been some special moments in Light Blue.

You also don’t make 26 appearances for World Cup Finalists Croatia if you can’t kick a ball.

But Rangers need players they can rely on to perform consistently and not drown under the weight of expectation in the jersey and if Trabzonspor’s interest is legit we can see the Ibrox side listening.

Rangers need to find proper solutions to these Champions League and Premiership problems and too often we’re talking about Borna Barisic being dead weight when the pressure is on.

Meanwhile, Rangers fans are asking questions of BBC Scotland after an interview with an ex-Ibrox player this week.
