The Scottish Herald reports that Josh McPake is set to sign a new Rangers contract.
In so doing, he will be committing himself to Rangers, despite apparent interest from the likes of Liverpool and Roma.
It’s said that the 17-year-old will pen a new deal stretching until 2023, once the first team squad returns from Portugal.
This is another excellent piece of business from Steven Gerrard.
Since arriving in May 2018, the Gers manager has shown his ability to sell the club to highly-rated players.
Whether it is highly established performers like Jermain Defoe or in-demand potential like Joe Aribo, Gerrard is able to convince players that coming to Ibrox is the best move for them.
Those same skills have been shown again, here.
McPake scored for fun for the Rangers youth and Reserve teams last season. He formed part of Reserve league and Scottish Youth Cup winning sides, earning praise from Bears.
On the back of that success, it would have been easy to set off for pastures new. After all, a club like Liverpool can offer the bright lights of the Premier League.
Yet, despite not yet making his senior Gers debut, McPake has decided Rangers is the best place to be.
It’s another box ticked in the transfer window and by all accounts, there’s a lot to come from this youngster in the years ahead.
