As Rangers captain James Tavernier prepares to pen a new contract at Ibrox, younger sibling Marcus is being primed for a move to the Premier League
News book this week that Ibrox skipper Tav, 30, would be following in the footsteps of vice-captain Connor Goldson by committing himself to the Gers until 2026.
It’s a major piece of business for the club and fans won’t take for granted the contribution of James Tavernier at Rangers and what his commitment means for the club.
But it’s not the only piece of major news for the Tavernier family as James’ youngster brother Marcus is the subject of high-profile transfer reports.
Currently turning out for Championship Middlesbrough, according to the likes of the Daily Mail both Nottingham Forest and Bournemouth have lodged bids of £10m for the 23-year-old attacking midfielder.

Whilst there doesn’t appear to have been any movement to date, Boro boss Chris Wilder has admitted the club could struggle to hold on to the Rangers skipper’s younger sibling.
“I’ve got to go into this next week and work on the assumption that it’s business as usual (with Tavernier),” said Wilder [Northern Echo].
“But we’re in that situation where anything can happen with anybody.
“Who knows what might happen? Something might come from leftfield, and who knows? We’ve got some good players.
“As I said in a previous interview, Liverpool lost (Sadio) Mane. They weren’t expecting to lose Mane, but they did.
“I imagine Jurgen Klopp and the board would not have expected to have lost their best player, but their best player went and they had to replace him.
“You’ve just got to realise that this is football, and anybody can go at any time during the window.”
A talented player in his own right, Marcus Tavernier has been a stand-out performer for Middlesbrough over the last few seasons and he could be about to get his Premier League break.
Known to have a tight relationship with brother James, if any prospective interest comes to fruition then there will be great cause for celebration in the Tavernier family this week.
In total, the Rangers star’s younger brother has played 155 times for Middlesbrough, scoring 18 goals and laying on 18 assists.
Whilst it could be good news for James and Marcus Tavernier, Rangers could also soon have plenty to celebrate themselves in the coming days.
