Rangers starlet Aaron Lyall looks set to be rewarded for his fine B team form this season with a new contract.
Michael Beale revealed a surprisingly long injury list on Saturday but what this did was see space open up on the bench for academy prospects.
One of those players was Aaron Lyall who, with 13 goals in 37 appearances this season, has deserved a call up to the senior squad.
An early injury in the Glasgow Cup semi-final against Queens Park might put a temporary halt on his progress with it coming so close to the end of the season though.
The 19-year old, as reported by former BBC reporter Fraser Fletcher for Football Insider, has however, been given a boost with the news that he is to be offered another contract.
Is Rangers where Aaron Lyall’s future lies?
Fletcher has claimed that Rangers have offered Lyall a deal until the summer of 2024 which gives Michael Beale the chance to take a longer look at the youngster.
“Rangers have offered 19-year-old midfielder Arron Lyall a one-year contract extension.
“Lyall’s current deal is set to expire in the summer unless he agrees the extra year at Ibrox.
“The 19-year-old has impressed the Gers’ coaching staff and was promoted to training with the first-team squad at Auchenhowie earlier this year.”
The Scotland youth international has been out on loan before to Inverness Caledonian Thistle but he only made four appearances.
Lyall will have a lot of players in front of him next season so it may be that any new contract is offered with a view to sending the talented teenager out to get valuable game time at senior level.
With Rabbi Matondo impressing on his return to fitness and with Tom Lawrence and Alex Lowry still to come back into first-team reckoning, the Gers boss won’t be short of options even before he makes any summer acquisitions.
Lyall has a decision to make and will probably have other offers in Scotland should he decide that he wants to move on.
A place on the bench against St Mirren might just be enough to tempt him to stay though.
