Rangers have announced the signing of New York City FC defender James Sands on an 18-month loan deal – with Niko Katic potentially taking down his Instagram as a result.
The USA international will wear the number 19 at Ibrox for the remainder of the season – Katic’s number in the Ibrox squad – with Niko currently out on loan with Hajduk Split in Croatia.
With a change of management at Ibrox, the move may well be an ominous one for Niko Katic as James Sands prepares to take up a place in the squad even next season.
The entire thing has been compounded by the news that Niko Katic deleted posts on his Instagram, something many believe to be a result of James Sands taking his number.
Of course, it could also be entirely coincidental, but the timing has raised suspicions.

Niko, 25, is working his way back from a devastating cruciate ligament injury that kept the former Slaven Bepulo defender out of the Ibrox side’s title-winning unbeaten campaign last year.
In order to get minutes into his legs and get back playing Rangers agreed to send the defender on loan to Hajduk Split in his homeland with the Croats reportedly holding a £3m option to buy.
James Sands, 21, has now beefed out the Rangers defence – although he can also play as a defensive midfielder or a right-back – and it gives Niko Katic something to think about ahead of next season.
Niko Katic has always been a fan favourite at Rangers but the move with his Instagram gives food for thought as competition for places heats up in Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s squad.
