English giants Manchester United are one of four Premier League clubs monitoring Rangers captain James Tavernier according to a new report.

90min.com are claiming that United view Tavernier as a “viable transfer alternative” to £20m Atletico Madrid full-back Kieran Trippier.

Tavernier would also provide competition to £50m full-back Aaron Wan Bissaka, something which stands as a testament to his success at Ibrox.

The report also names Arsenal as another side interested whilst Brighton and Norwich City are the other clubs mentioned.

Tav, 29, captained Rangers to an unbeaten season in the last campaign and it’s understandable that clubs would be considering the marauding wing-back.

The athletic Rangers star was injured for a spell at the turn of the year but still wound up the club’s top scorer in a legendary campaign.

Tavernier’s 19 goals were quite extraordinary from right-back but his 16 assists prove that his 35 goal contribution was simply humongous in the last campaign.

Named the PFA Scotland Player of the Year and the Rangers Player of the Year there is no doubt that losing Tavernier would leave a sizeable hole in the squad.

This is despite young Nathan Patterson coming up behind him on the right-hand side of the defence at Ibrox.

Not that Rangers fans need to worry about losing their captain fantastic; Tavernier celebrated winning 55 by signing on at Rangers until 2024.

Rangers fans paid testament to their captain after he signed on the dotted line at Ibrox in a move that ultimately protects the club’s interest.
