Rangers defender Jack Simpson has had to wait for his chance in a Gers shirt this season but fans remain unconvinced by the centre-back so far in his Ibrox career.

Simpson initially joined the Gers on loan last season but even in the initial six months of his time in Glasgow there was some conjecture regarding the player.

The Ibrox club’s fourth choice centre-back, as the new campaign kicked off Simpson found himself struggling to depose Connor Goldson, Filip Helander and Leon Balogun from the XI.

But after a long-term injury to Swedish international Helander – set to keep the defender out until December – Simpson is set to get more opportunities in the side.

This began with the Scottish Premiership clash with Motherwell but Simpson struggled to convince a Rangers support growing frustrated with a stop-start campaign.

Simpson, 24, was caught out several times hesitating to attack the ball and ultimately this would contribute to the team’s shortcomings in the 1-1 draw.

The entire defence never covered themselves in glory for the equaliser but Jack Simpson failed in his positioning and missed a tackle before the ball was forced home.

In general there was a shakiness to Rangers defensively with fans questioning Simpson’s unsure start to life at Ibrox:


Despite flattering to deceive so far this season, Rangers still find themselves at the top of the Scottish Premiership.

Another of the club’s permanent summer signings has come in for repeated criticism from fans and he faces the biggest challenge of his career to date to win many of them over.
