Rangers star discusses future as Premier League suitors bank £25m

Rangers star Glen Kamara has been speaking about his future at Ibrox, just as long-term suitors Brighton prepare to sell Yves Bissouma.

Glen, 26, is coming off the back of an inconsistent season where he occasionally showed flashes of the quality that has had the Ibrox support singing his name over the last three years.

But, like many of the team in the first half of the campaign in particular, there were times when the Rangers support were demanding more from the Finnish international.

Speaking whilst on international duty with the Scandinavian nation, Glen Kamara has been opened about his career ambitions and hopes to play in the Premier League.

But at the same time the ex-Arsenal Academy player has reiterated just how special a place Rangers has proven for him over the last three-and-a-half years.

Even if he initially had reservations.

“When I played against Rangers at first, I thought the level was good, but I wanted to go to England because the level is even better,” said Kamara [YLE, via Daily Record].

“But when I came to Rangers, I realised that the level is really high and that this is the best place to develop.

“I would never say that I wouldn’t go and play elsewhere in Europe. I would like to play in the Premier League, but if there was somewhere else that would be good for me, I would go there.

“The first reason I came here was because of manager Steven Gerrard. Everyone knows him as a player.

“I told my mates back then that I would never sign for Celtic or Rangers because I wanted to go back to London or England.

“A lot of my friends have come to Rangers to watch the games. They say they’ve been to Manchester United, Arsenal, Liverpool or Everton, but you can’t get this atmosphere anywhere else.”

Could Brighton resurrect interest in Rangers’ Glen Kamara amid Yves Bissouma sale?

The Glen Kamara comments come at an interesting time given news of Brighton midfielder Yves Bissouma’s imminent move to Tottenham Hotpsur.

Spurs are reportedly set to pay £25m to sign Bissouma this summer as the 25-year-old Ivory Coast midfielder prepares to join Antonio Conte’s side.

But given similarities between Yves Bissouma and Glen Kamara, might Brighton consider realising consistent links to the Rangers midfielder?

The Seagulls have been consistently linked with a move for Kamara ever since the summer of 2019.

But with Glen Kamara contracted to Rangers until the summer of 2025, if Brighton do come calling then they can expect to cough up.

Whilst there’s nothing official linking the two at the moment, then we suspect that might change in the coming days.

Meanwhile, Rangers claims surrounding a form striker down south have been refuted by an Ibrox-centric journalist.
