The Rangers squad has been valued £35m higher than Old Firm rivals Celtic after the transfer window saw the Parkhead club downsize significantly.
Celtic lost the likes of Scott Brown, Olivier Ntcham and Kris Ajer earlier in the summer whilst Ryan Christie and Odsonne Edouard left Parkhead on deadline day.
Whilst the other half of the Old Firm have signed 11 new players to help bolster their squad their lesser standing in the game sees the value of their squad drop significantly.
Rangers – in contrast – have managed to retain their best players despite much speculation as Alfredo Morelos, Ryan Kent, Borna Barisic and Glen Kamara survive the window.
As a result, Rangers have retained a squad of established internationals and Scottish Premiership players whilst Celtic have been beefed up by a team of veritable unknowns.
Whilst popular football database Transfermarkt are not the ultimate authority on player valuations it is one of the most comprehensive footballing resources on the planet.
As the dust settles on an interesting window in Scottish football, the German-based database believe there is a sizeable difference between the two clubs in terms of squad value.
That’s an exact difference of £34.6m and that perhaps shows the gulf in quality between the two squads which makes the Gers firm favourites to retain the title.
In those squads, Ryan Kent is the most valued at Rangers at £12.6m whilst Callum McGregor is reportedly Celtic’s at £6.3m.
Rangers have come in for some criticism by not kicking the player trading model into action this summer as Celtic appear to downsize in yet another window.
That’s left some Gers fans have been left scratching their heads over praise of Celtic’s £40m downsizing as the Ibrox club are criticised by some for retaining their best talent.
