Rangers sporting director Ross Wilson has hinted during an interview with RangersTV, that the club could sanction multiple more transfers before the window closes in October.
The Gers have been very active this summer with Kemar Roofe, Cedric Itten, Ianis Hagi, Calvin Bassey and Jon McLaughlin arriving on permanent deals, while the likes of Ross McCrorie, Greg Docherty, Matt Polster and Jamie Murphy have moved on.
However, the club have been heavily linked with Preston midfielder Daniel Johnson in recent days [Daily Record] and speaking over the weekend, Wilson hinted that further deals could be done.
“We’re really pleased [with the transfer business to date],” he told RangersTV. “We went in with a clear plan but the plan’s not finished yet.”
“Steven has gone on record to say that we are still in the market and we are still looking to enhance the squad. But we’ll only do so if we think it’s the right player, or right players, who can come in and move the squad forward.
“We are open-minded. We do want to add. We know what we want to add, but we’ll only do so if it’s a deal that’s right for Rangers and if it’s a profile that’s right for Rangers.”
Ross Wilson hints more Rangers transfers are possible – Verdict
While a recent report claimed the deal is not yet done [Lancashire Post], the Gers are said to be very interested in Preston star Johnson, who scored 12 times and registered seven assists in the Championship last season.
Those are impressive numbers in a competitive league and Steven Gerrard could do with some extra creativity from midfield.
However, Bears will be excited by Wilson’s suggestion that there could be more than one new addition.
Further transfers may hinge on whether or not current Rangers players head out of the club before next month’s deadline, but it’s possible that Gerrard could also be targeting a robust defensive midfielder in addition to a smaller, attack-minded player like Johnson.
