Sory Kaba was one of two players when Rangers played Midtjylland in 2019 that looked like they were destined for bigger things.
The other who is now playing MLS and was linked with a move to Ibrox was Evander, however, Michael Beale could do a lot worse than attempting to bring his former teammate to Rangers.
Sory Kaba has had a few issues with the Danes which has seen him spend the second half of this season at Cardiff City having spent 2021/22 at OH Leuven in Belgium.
With eight goals in 15 games, the 28-year old has played a key role in helping to keep Cardiff out of the bottom four as the season draws to a close.
At 6ft 3inches tall, the 21-times capped Guinea international is a real handful, as Connor Goldson knows only too well.
Rangers might have come out on top over the two legs but Kaba’s strength, pace and ability on the ball caused our defence problems.
Similar to Alfredo Morelos, Kaba is a combative striker but is better with the ball at his feet and faster than the Colombian.
With just a year left of his contract at Midtjylland, and seemingly out of favour, a deal could be done.
Do Rangers have a chance of targeting Sory Kaba?
The Dane’s manager, Thomas Thomasberg, was recently asked what the future holds for Kaba and, without giving too much away, he was hardly begging the big striker to hurry back:
“I haven’t thought about that at all.
“Right now I have enough to do here, and then later we will look at the picture that is for next season. I just have a small overview of it, but it’s not something I’ve thought about at all.
“I spend so much time thinking about the players who are here that I don’t really want to speculate about it. The only thing I can promise you is that we will try to make the squad stronger for the autumn.”
Rangers will need at least one more striker and Kaba has international, Champions League and Europa League experience.
We have also seen at first-hand what he is like as an opponent and the problems that he can cause.
Michael Beale needs a striker that can be versatile, that can lead the line in Scotland and Europe, both providing their own unique challenges – Kaba is the man for the job.
Having been sent out on loan twice, even with a new manager, Kaba will want the chance to be main man again and Rangers can offer that.
