Rangers should consider winger return after Man Utd boss praise

Two seasons ago, Rangers were in a good position to kick on and win the Scottish Premiership title, Celtic recruited better and the rest is history – a mistake Philippe Clement will want to avoid.

The Gers boss has already brought in Fabio Silva but there is still a glaring need to add more firepower to the squad than just the Portuguese forward.

In 2022, Amad Diallo arrived with a big reputation on the back of a £19m move to Man Utd – the deal could rise to £37m – but would now be a better time in the winger’s career to bring him to Rangers?

Rangers return for Amad Diallo should be considered

There was a lot expected of the then teenager but it wasn’t until it was too late that he really found his feet.

A debut goal and promising performance was ruined by keystone cops defending in Dingwall before a calamitous Parkhead display saw the on-loan winger almost disappear from the squad altogether.

Almost as if Giovanni van Bronckhorst was given the player rather than specifically wanted him.

Had he arrived at the beginning of the campaign, things might have been different and his success at Sunderland last year backs this opinion up.

With 14 goals, almost one every three, he showed what he is capable of only for a pre-season injury to halt his progress in the summer.

After a surprise appearance in the last fixture of 2023 for Man Utd, Amad Diallo is fit and ready to go, and Rangers should be picking up the phone.

We need wingers, even just in the short term, and Diallo knows exactly what it takes at Rangers now.

There wouldn’t need to be any settling in period and he would have the opportunity play more regularly than he will at Old Trafford, although Erik ten Hag is clearly a fan:

“Yeah, he is very ball secure. He can bring a key actions, final passes, score a goal. And so I think he has some weapons. That is always what you are looking for with offensive players.”

Loan moves have been mentioned as a possibility, however, Diallo himselve took to social media to rubbish the prospect of a return to the Championship.

A return to Ibrox and the chance to right the wrongs of 2022 wouldn’t be the worst idea of this transfer window.
