The Scottish Sun reports that Jake Hastie is set to leave Rangers on loan this summer.
They also corroborate a Daily Mail claim that fellow winger Glenn Middleton will also leave Ibrox temporarily.
Hastie signed a pre-contract agreement with Rangers on 1 May. He’s set to officially report to training for the first time next week, as his four-year contract begins.
However, it’s suggested that Steven Gerrard is determined not to stunt the 20-year-old’s development at such an early stage of his career.
With the arrival of Jordan Jones and potential return of Ryan Kent, playing time is far from guaranteed.
Therefore, Hastie is to be sent elsewhere in order to hone his skills.
On the face of it, this isn’t hugely surprising news.
Hastie’s rise to prominence last season was dramatic, meaning he’s only actually made 17 SPL appearances.
He’s no stranger to a loan spell, either. He previously spent time away from Motherwell with Airdrie and most recently, Alloa Athletic.
In the long-term, a stint away before competing for his place at Rangers will probably do him good.
Nonetheless, plenty of Bears are bound to be disappointed that they’re unlikely to see a big summer signing in action at Ibrox next season. There had been excitement concerning his capture, but the wait might continue to see him in competitive action for the Gers.
