Rangers are shopping on a tight budget as Philippe Clement and Nils Koppen look to cut the wage bill this summer.

There still needs to be a bit of work done to the squad though and any last-minute bargains who can add quality will have to be considered.

One such player could be Ryan Kent who is reported to have agreed to have his Fenerbahce contract torn up and his departure is “almost certain” according to Ntvspor.

Ryan Kent facing Fenerbahce contract decision

Jose Mourinho has at least given the 27-year old a chance in pre-season fixtures where the winger featured regularly, even managing to score against Strasbourg.

However, it hasn’t been enough to impress the legendary manager, and it looks like the former Liverpool youngster is leaving Turkey.

A move to Lazio was aborted at the 11th hour in January and Leeds United bid £2.5m to relieve Fener of his services.

Hull City were also said to have agreed a deal only for Kent to decide that the English Championship wasn’t for him.

England does seem to be his next destination though.

All this has done is frustrate the Fener fans with pundit Levent Umit Erol far from happy that Kent is still at the club:

“He (Kent) doesn’t want to leave. The man is shameless. If he was my friend, I would call him brazen.

“All of these clubs are coming in for him and he’s being shown the door but he won’t leave.

“Lets just move on from him.”

What is interesting is, depsite Kent’s problems with the club and lack of game time, he has never caused any of his managers problems with Ismail Kartal going as far as to praise Rangers old number 14:

“We prefer the players who will make the best contribution to the team. Ryan Kent is a disciplined and hard-working player.

“He must remain loyal to the task you give him. Everyone is working, everyone deserves to play. I say (to the players) that there is a match in four days, you will play in the first 11 or you will be in the squad there.

“They look and say, ‘The coach is trying to be fair.’ My biggest thing is that I am very clear. I explain the reason for this, and they understand.”

Could Ryan Kent make Rangers return?

The question is, is Ryan Kent better than Rangers currently have?

Compared to Scott Wright, Rabbi Matondo and Ross McCausland, the answer is a resounding, yes, however, whilst those three plus Oscar Cortes and Vaclav Cerny are at the club, there simply isn’t space.

Matondo has been linked with a move to Leeds, ironically because they have failed to get Kent, which would leave a gap in the squad.

Clement has tried to sign Kent before after his initial loan spell with Rangers and he was close to getting him until Steven Gerrard persuaded the board to part with £7m.

Maybe this time the big Belgian will get his man.
