Links between Rangers and Aberdeen midfielder Lewis Ferguson pop up every summer but they’re about to be put to bed amid links to Bologna.

There’s been much speculation about the future of the 22-year-old Scotland international and the latest suggests Ferguson is closing in on a £3m move to Italy.

The Daily Mail are claiming that Lewis Ferguson will fly to northern Italy this weekend to undergo a medical and put an end to much speculation regarding his future.

The player appeared destined to leave Pittodrie this summer amid links to Championship Millwall and Serie A pair Lecce and Cagliari.

According to the Athletic, despite much talk surrounding Lewis Ferguson and Rangers, the Gers were not interested in moving for Ferguson this summer.

Lewis Ferguson now looks Bologna-bound and by making the move the midfielder will be following in the footsteps of Scottish international full-back Aaron Hickey.

Hickey, 20, moved to Italy in a £1.5m deal from Hearts in 2020 and went on to massively impress in Italy, quickly breaking into the Bologna first-team.

According to the Daily Mail report, Lewis Ferguson has taken advice from Hickey regarding the move and the left-back helped to sell life in Bologna to the midfielder.

What’s more, Ferguson can look at that megabucks move to England and know that if he can make an impression in Italy then this potentially awaits him in the coming years.

As a result, Rangers may well regret not making reported interest in Lewis Ferguson concrete but for the time being, plenty will just be happy that any chatter surrounding the two parties has finally been settled; for the next few years, at least.

Meanwhile, Rangers’ stagnant transfer window sparks into life as the club secure three internationals for under £300k.
