Rangers reportedly submit loan bid for Zamalek striker Mohamed

According to the Daily Record, who are citing reports in Africa, Rangers have submitted a loan bid for Zamalek striker, Mostafa Mohamed.

The Gers are said to have offered £500k to take the 22-year-old on loan until the end of the season, with a view to paying a further £1.5m to sign him permanently should he make a big impression.

However, it’s suggested that the Egyptian giants aren’t playing ball, despite the player allegedly handing in a transfer request in an attempt to push through a move.

The Record article claims that Zamalek believe Mohamed is worth more than what has been tabled, while the club’s President, Mortada Mansour, insists he’s in no rush to cash in.

“Mostafa is an important player for us who still has 18 months left on his contract,” he is quoted as saying. “We have had a lot of interest from clubs in Europe. But we have no requirement to sell the player just now.”

Rangers could certainly do with another striker to bolster their attacking options for the second half of the season.

Alfredo Morelos will be suspended on the return from the winter break following his red card in the win over Celtic, meaning Jermain Defoe will, at present, be the only out-and-out forward at Steven Gerrard’s disposal.

We can’t pretend to have seen a lot of this highly-rated young player in action, but he finished top scorer in the U23 Africa Cup of Nations late last year and he has a decent record of six goals in 14 appearances for Zamalek this season [Transfermarkt].

If Mohamed is indeed a top target, the Gers will hope to move negotiations along swiftly, given that their return to competitive action is now just two weeks away.
