Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos is currently “out of limits” for European admirers FC Porto, claims a report in the club’s homeland of Portugal.

Sergio Conceicao’s side has been extensively linked to the striker since the beginning of the transfer window and those reports intensified following the Gers’ exit from the Champions League.

However, O Jogo via Sport Witness are now claiming that these have been short-lived as Rangers’ asking price – which they report start at £13.5m (€15m) – is too high for the Portuguese side.

O Jogo also believe that Porto have other priorities in the transfer window, not least raking in another substantial transfer fee whilst also signing a left-back.

These claims come after a report in the Daily Record suggested that “sources” close to the player believe a move to Porto is unlikely.

The importance of Morelos to the Rangers side was underpinned by the striker’s involvement in the 2-1 defeat to Swedish Champions Malmo FF in the Champions League qualifiers.

The striker opened the scoring for the Gers despite having a disrupted pre-season which seen him only join up with his teammates earlier this month.

This was after spending the summer at the Copa America in Brazil with Colombia, with Los Cafeteros finishing third at the tournament.

Morelos is amongst the Ibrox club’s most valuable assets with reports intensifying this week that the club will have to sell following the Champions League exit.

But despite all the talk could the current state of the transfer market dictate whether players stay or go?
